MUSE

My favorite band is Muse, and the first song of theirs I heard was Uprising. I assumed from the general sound of the song that it was from the 80s or something; I later embarrassingly learned that it was younger than I am. However, that took long enough that before then, it managed to really make me feel some shit. I heard stars from what I thought at the time was the baby boomer generation, now considered the staunch, backwards holders of establishment, call simply and loudly for a proper revolution.

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
And we will be victorious

When I found out (embarrassingly recently) that I was wrong about when the song was from, I wasn't actually all that broken up about it. Because this had been marinating and developing in my head for quite a while, and I had added even more profound examples to the idea's smokestacks. Things I already knew but had never thought about like this, and things I sought out. If you want me to elaborate, lucky you; this entire wing of the Yaptrium is me doing that. This, here, is the origin story.

And in case you're sad Muse didn't turn out to be an example of rebellious boomers and you're back to thinking those don't exist, this is a photo of Mary and John Tinker, high school students circa 1969 in the middle of the Cold and Vietnam Wars, who wore anti-war armbands to school, got suspended for it, took it to the Supreme Court, and won.

oh no where did they go
