THE NONCONFORMITY CYCLE

One of the most familiar feelings among people regardless of demographic or experiential difference is trappedness. Feeling as though one's actions are being policed, as though all their options are the same, as though they're being ground up by the friction between the status quo and the ground as time drags it forward. Often, they're right. And when it reaches a breaking point, people revolt; they take the power back and remake the world and the establishment in their own image.
And then the next generation comes around and the same fucking thing happens again.
It's everywhere. In politics, incumbent candidates are less likely to win elections. In religion, several now-huge Christian sects broke off of Catholicism at the same time when the Church lost supreme power over everything. And in the arts, absolutely every single new big movement, style, or genre was considered a brazen insult to the sanctity of the medium at its inception. All of them.
George Orwell wrote of this phenomenon in his novel, Animal Farm, which I haven't read. But because time is a flat fucking circle, here I am writing about it too.
